Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad

May 4, 2008 - 5:01 am - Posted by cereal87

Mahathir also know how to pose. Great!!!

mahathir was born on 20th December 1925 in Alor Star, Kedah. His Indian father was a school teacher migrated from Kerala, Southwest India. While his mother was A Malay. Tun generally regards himself as a Malay ethnic but is a strong supporter of Indian community in Malaysia. He sold banana fritters (pisang goreng) during the Japanese occupation of Malaya to help his family financially.

A prominent figure in Malaysia

Mahathir became the Prime Minister of Malaysia on 16 July 1981 when Tun Hussein Onn stepped down due to health reasons. After 22 years in office, Mahathir retired on October 31, 2003, making him one of Asia’s longest-serving political leaders. Upon his retirement on 31 October 2003, Mahathir was awarded a “Tun”-ship, Malaysia’s highest civilian honour.

Tun attended Malay school before persuing his education in Sultan Abdul Hamid College. Then he went for a medical degree in King Edward VII Medical College in Singapore. During this time, he contributed to The Straits Times newspaper under the pen name of “Che Det”. He joined the goevernment service soon after graduate. On 5th August 1956, he married Tun Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali (former classmate in college). In 1957, he set up his own private clinic in Alor Star.

As a fellow student under his Vision 2020 (Wawasan 2020), we definitely have learned a lot about him throughout our daily life in school. As a fellow Malaysian, we have heard and see alot about him whether in person or in the tv and read alot about him in the newspaper. He made several landmarks during his term as the Prime Minister. Among those are removing royal veto and royal immunity from prosecution. He also turned malaysia into a regional high-tech manufacturing, financial and telecommunications hub through his economic policies. As what we can see, he realised alot of projects including but not limited to Perwaja Steel, Proton car, Astro satelite tv, Multimedia Super Coridor, North South Expressway, futuristic administration centre Putrajaya, KLIA, Bakun Dam and Petronas Twin Towers. However, as an MMU student, I must thank him for idealising Malaysia’s first private university; Multimedia University.

Honorary Doctorate of Knowledge Science in the year 2004, MMU

During the financial crisis in 1997, his wisdom has brought us out from the economic grive. Eventhough IMF has given Malaysia a recovery fund, he rejected it. During the crisis, Malaysia Ringgit plunged from RM2.50 per USD to RM4.80 per USD. Composite index fell of from about 1300 to just 400 points within weeks. Tun’s defensive measures and his refusal to take in loan from IMF has allowed Malaysia to be free from financial bond. Today, Malaysia’s economic has prosper relatively faster and more stable than affected neighbouring countries. IMF and World Bank acknowledged that his approach had worked.

In 2002 a tearful[44] Mahathir announced his resignation to a surprised UMNO General Assembly. He was persuaded to stay on for a further eighteen months, in a carefully planned handover that ended in October 2003. Since retirement, he has been serving as an advisor to the Malaysian national oil company Petronas and the Malaysian national car company Proton, an original core national project initiated by Mahathir during his premiership. He is also the head of the Perdana Leadership Foundation, a foundation whose aim is to preserve, develop and spread materials regarding or written by previous Malaysian Prime Ministers. While he has retired from all political offices, he remains very outspoken regarding national policies.

On 1st of May , he started his blog (maybe coz labour day, he no need to work, so he is free to do so), chedet.com. It uses blogspot as it’s engine. However, the domain was registered on 9th April. He simply describe himself as the Prime Minister of Malaysia 1981-2003. he claims the site is dedicated to publishing his writings as and when he is able to pen his thoughts and opinion.

Dont pray pray with Malaysia’s bloggers. Tun is on our side now :)
p/s this does not mean he condone whatever bad or nasty bloggers write

p/s coincidently, my dream is to sell pisang goreng. If someone who used to sell pisang goreng to help his family and become 1 of the most respectful person in Malaysia, why can’t I be 1 rite???

Spam from the future

March 30, 2008 - 4:43 am - Posted by cereal87

This is how advance and intelligent spam can be. They have developed the time machine. The spam machine in the future can spam the past. Here’s my proof from my spam folder:

future-spam.JPG

*Lol… this is not a spam from the year 2009 or the year 2020. I guess the spam bot messed up with the email header. The date can be altered from there.

Rss? Atom?

October 25, 2007 - 12:20 am - Posted by cereal87

Does it matters if you feed on RSS or Atom? Both are web feed. This mean that any sites that have updates, you will get feed if you have web feeder or agregator. Firefox has built in feature that will auto detect most of these feeds including websites that has these feeds. Today’s web feed softwares have developed to the point that will support both of these format, almost flawlessly. Even Google has its own Google reader. Personally I liked Google reader because I can add it to my iGoogle page.

To start feeding (no, I am not asking you to feed on any food stuff) on Firefox, just go to any site that support RSS or Atom. You will see this orange logo on the URL bar if the site does support.48px-feed-icon.png

url-bar.jpg

Next, click on the feed icon. You will arrive to a page similar to this.

pagefeed.jpg

Select ‘Live Bookmarks’ and click ‘Subscribe Now’. To add to Google Reader, change ‘Live Bookmarks’ to ‘Google’ and click ‘Subscribe Now’. Follow the instruction next page. For Firefox, proceed below.

bookmark.jpg

You can add to any folder you like, but I choose ‘Bookmarks Toolbar Folder’ so I can get my feed on the toolbar. Now I have a web feed on my toolbar. You can add more in your toolbar or Bookmarks folders.

ps: If I don’t visit your blog, doesn’t mean I don’t read it. I feed on your blog. If your blog doesn’t have feed feature, then too bad. High chance I don’t read it on regular basis or I don’t even bother to stop by. Yeah, those who blog using friendster or livejournal, you do have feed. If you think of start blogging and want people to read your blog regularly, get blogspot, wordpress or host a blog of your own which support feed.

pss: For those who lazy to blog hopping, get Google Reader or use iGoogle and add the feed to your homepage. If you think adding feed to your homepage is tedious, you can add the Google Reader widget which will simplify things. Below is a pic on how I organize my daily feed using iGoogle.

Upgrade the kernel to 2.6.22-13-generic

October 8, 2007 - 10:52 pm - Posted by cereal87

First, add the Gutsy repository to the source. The new kernel is in the Gutsy repository.

echo ‘deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy main restricted’ | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list

Update the repository

sudo apt-get update

Install the new kernel:

sudo apt-get install linux linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic linux-restricted-modules-generic

Answer yes to all to all the prompt.
Remove the Gutsy repository:

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Remove this line inside sources.list

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy main restricted

Update the repository list to stop getting Gutsy’s updates:

sudo apt-get update

Reboot.

Modem does not work after kernel upgrade. Even after remove the hsfmodem and reinstall.

Fresh Feisty Install

October 1, 2007 - 3:52 am - Posted by cereal87

This is my second day using Ubuntu Desktop 7.04 on my laptop. Its the new Dell Inspiron 1420 I bought earlier. The US version, 1420n comes with an option for Ubuntu. However, for Malaysia market, the mininum is Vista Basic. I didnt really want to take all the trouble to install Ubuntu. But heck, I installed PCOSLinux2007 coz it run straight out of the box where as Ubuntu doesn´t. The whole reason was because the X server break off. Anyone familiar with linux will know what I mean.

About 2 days ago, my comp got fucked up. Vista crashed. For goodness sack. Dell Media Direct also not working. Switch it on and BSOD will greet me. Thus I took all the trouble to format my pc, restore the Dell Utility partition, the restore partition and Media Direct partition. Who knows I might need it 1 day. Being left about 100GB harddisk, I installed Ubuntu and gone through all those technical shit just to get Ubuntu running properly. Its better than Vista in alot of ways. And of course, its open source. I have 2gb ram, if using vista, it will take almost 1gb, but Ubuntu, 200mb++??? only 1/5 from Vista. What more could I ask? I like graphic, but CS3 in linux? NO. I think I will learn how to use GIMP.

More post up if I have time. I will include the pictures of my laptop.

Suthesh, I love beryl so much. I know you hate my flip-able desktop. Linux rules!!! You can hate me for that

Having slow internet???

December 27, 2006 - 1:38 pm - Posted by cereal87

Christmas has jst over, campus still empty, life in campus seems slow and now the internet seems slow. What happened?

Taiwan had a 7.1 ritcher scale earthquake at around 3am malaysia time. Somehow it affected Asia Pacific Cable Network 2, Segment S7 or commonly known as APCN2, S7 to those internet geeks. Sadly enough this segment links malaysia, japan and hong kong to international. this is wat happened when we dont hv our own internet backbone. we buy bandwidth from other countries. we used to link to singapore. yes… the kiasus hv their own connection directly linked to the international backbone. but when malaysia represented by telekom malaysia join ventured with other companies in asia-pacific, this APSN2 thingie was borned. It was placed in taiwan and linked towards the international backbone. other countries that join ventured this project hv to connect to taiwan 1st although they may still keep their current links for backup. like malaysia still hv their links to singapore n indonesia. lucky enough. if not u cant even surf now.

OK… u ask, what is APCN2. APCN2 is the longest international seabed fibre cable network, 19,000km in total length, in the Asia-Pacific, linking China, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, and onward to linking America, Europe and Australia.

this thingie is join ventured by major telecommunications companies, namely Advantel, Cable & Wireless Global Network, Cable&Wireless HKT, China Telecom, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, Concert, Global Network Services, Global One, Japan Telecom, KDD Corpe ration, Korea Telecom, KPN, Layer 2, MCI, WorldCom, Metromedia Giber Network Service, NTT Com, NCIC, OneLink Cable Network, PLDT, StarHub, SingTel, Taiwan Fixed Network, Teleglobe, Telekom Malaysia, Telstra and Williams Communications.

some may wonder why is it not put in malaysia, which is less prone to earthquake. simple answer, the cable will b costlier. u hv to pull the fibre cable all the way to the major backbone, the other part of the asia, america and europe. longer cables. mayb our location is near to australia. but to other parts 2 far mah.

remember, u get this news from me 1st. u can go to lowyat.net, tm.net website or jaring website or even other local newspaper website, they hvnt report it properly yet. they hvnt even tell its earthquake fault.
