An engineering student being idiot?

May 7, 2008 - 3:54 am - Posted by cereal87

I do not know how many times I have already mentioned to my housemate, don’t wire the network cable from the router, out to the balcony and back to your room. Yes, you have short network cables. So what? Why can you spend some extra bucks to buy a coupler and few more meters so you can extend your network cable? How much will it cost you? I am sure it will cost far more less than my over RM200 router. You are enjoying the internet and you didn’t even pay a single cent for the router. The last D-link wifi router also was replaced because it wasn’t able to cope with the amount of connections going in and out of it. I wonder who torrents all the time?

For heaven sack, you are taking Electronics engineering majoring in computer. Can’t you understand running live wires (yes, network cables are life wires coz they carry certain degree of current) outside your house can invite lightning to strike it. I believed I have explained this before. More than once. Even if you think I am bullshitting, then as an engineer, why don’t you think the logic behind those heavy insulated ground cables? Why do some Streamyx modem get fried during thunderstorm? Why do some places experiences power trips when a lightning stroked? If you would like to argue, why they don’t insulate power lines, thats because the heat need to dissipate fast enough from high current lines. They do have chances to get stroked by lighting. But they were designed have voltage & current clamper and will ground the over current. They also have mechanism to minimize the effect shall the lightning strikes. Does your network cable have all these features? For godness sack, if you can’t even see the danger, I would strongly suggest you stop your studies, marry a rich man and raise your kids.

Shall the router spoil or having problem, don’t worry. I am a nice guy. I won’t ask for a compensation. All you need is replace it with a brand new same model. Then you will know it is not cheap.

A day in the KLCC (Convention Centre) with Mr Jimmy Lai

April 26, 2008 - 9:27 pm - Posted by cereal87

Thanks for Mr Lai from Ameba Products for inviting us to help him run the roadshow in KLCC. Three of us from Sparkling Smile team and Fitri(baby’s bro), and 11 members from another Cyberp team worked together. Practically, this is an opportunity for us to actually try our hands on, on what we have done in Cyberpreneurship course. A day in the hall itself is not just about selling. He introduced to us some cool people in the innovation industry. Personally, he is a good talker that can interact with anyone. Basically I just go around with him leeching some contacts. Lol… at the end of the day, I got the chance to actually talk to the inventor of the 5 minutes stamping(seal) machine, Mr Robest Yong. Besides, from the people I met, I might actually have found the answer to 1 of the biggest problem that been haunting me in the yearbook binding part. Basically the yearbook is quite thick and with the current binding technology, the pages will come out very fast. But just now, I got my hands on experience on the latest book binding technology that actually will hold the pages of a thick book strongly together. I even folded a magazine the other way round.

Mr Lai together with the two teams

Our team, Fitri and Mr Lai at the end of the day

Don’t believe it

There is nothing more I can do than to thank Mr Jimmy Lai for this opportunity. The 1 day opportunity he given to us to experience of running a roadshow in exhibition cannot be described in any words. The only thing I can do is to share my experience in the roadshow and meeting people in the innovation industries. At the very least, I can help by becoming his live testimonial because I have actually thoroughly experimenting with the Sonic Power 3D toothbrush which he is promoting today. I hide no facts about the weaknesses. He is an open minded guy who are more than willing to share experiences and knowledge. Not just some businessman in the making.

p/s Ameba products may not have a stronghold in the local market yet, but with its Managing Director enthusiasm, I believe it will penetrate the market very soon and reach the international market in a blink of an eye. Kudos for everyone who are involved today and thanks to Mr Lai for being our most important sales partner.

update: The female model in the poster of pic #2 is Mr Lai’s daughter. Whoever want to be a successful Malaysian toothbrush tycoon can go ahead. You know what I mean. She is studying in UM, third year is not mistaken.

I felt challenged!!!

April 25, 2008 - 6:49 pm - Posted by cereal87

Went for dinner just now at the chinese shop in Cyberia. While having my dinner casually, I saw 2 6foot height Korean guys came in. They went straight for the food counter. To my horror, they didn’t even take a moment to look at the dishes. What they did was they took a plate each, start scoping the dishes like no body’s business. They filled the plate with mountain high of dishes. Next, each of them took rice on another plate. It was about 3 bowls of rice on each plate. Now I felt challenged.

Standing at 5″2′, I take 2 to 3 times more than the recommended portion of food for an average Asian. And my best record was 7 bowls of rice and a claypot of bak kut teh. Considering the amount of food taken over the body size, I can’t help it but felt challenged. Both of them are tall and thin.

And this is me:

Because I can eat 7 bowls of rice and 2-3 times more than an average Joe, you expect me to be short, fat and have stubby legs? Nah…

Don’t believe it? You better believe it!!!

Stress?

April 16, 2008 - 6:39 pm - Posted by cereal87

I used to handle stress well enough. It is like a chunk in my system. Whenever I don’t need it, I just put it a side, stop thinking about it or goes to sleep. It will only take a moment before I can start resuming my daily life. But recently, its taking a toll on me. It affected me emotionally and my sleeping pattern. I can no longer sleep well. Things always play in my mind.

What caused this? I do not know. Although I choose to ignore them, but people just keep adding more stress to me. Its like as if I am so free, got nothing better to do. Please don’t rush me with last minute works, unless it’s necessary. I will always try to plan things ahead of dateline, so I can spread out my works and if I feel lame or not in the mood, I can reschedule my activities. Last minute work add more burden to me as I don’t have the flexibility to manage my workflow and time. I can’t work in a conventional manners. I like flexibility as I believe I will produce the best result if I am allowed to do it my own way, my own time.

And another thing, when doing group work with me, if its already assigned to you, please do it as early as possible. Don’t do it the very last moments and it really look sucks when it actually shows it is 5 minutes work. I can easily identify it.

If the amount of stress doesn’t reduce overtime, it will take a big toll on me. Be it physically, mentally or financially.

Take an example, was so busy with CyberP, trying to make my end meets, cover up things my group members lack of (sometimes I feel its so unreasonable for them to be lacking in skills that requires only common sense) and without me realizing it, it took a big toll on me. I didn’t sleep for days. In the end, I get to tired and have a headache. I didn’t study before my Data Struc quiz. And great, I screwed it just now. Only managed to grab 1 mark out of 5, what the heck was that? I was so not me. I am 100% sure if I have the time to study, I would have done better. Now I need to work harder during the final exam for the 4 marks. I want An A+ god damn it. There is no reason I shouldn’t score an A. If I done, blame it on me for being not selfish enough to concentrate on my own work instead of making sure everything else run fine.

And stress is really a bitch, coz it caused me to spend unnecessarily. I already used up all my pocket money for this month. Could you spare an old bread to this poor guy? I have tasted rice since yesterday.

Ameba Sonic Power 3D Toothbrush

April 15, 2008 - 11:38 pm - Posted by cereal87

Finally I got my set of Sonic Toothbrush by Ameba Products. It is a local company and the toothbrush is claimed to be made in Malaysia. The Recommended retail price from the supplier is RM60, but I managed to buy it at a price way below than that. RM60 is not considered cheap and you can get older model of Oral-B or Watson/Guardian’s generic brand.

Its a new line of product that has just begun mass manufacturing.

No offense but from the top view, it looks more like a china made rather than a 100% Bolehland product. Rather looking professional, it looks like a kiddie toothbrush set.

From an angled view, it looks more like a toothpaste if you ignore the transparent window.

Yada… yada… yada… there goes the list of features it has. It reads “Portable” as one of its feature. It does provide a jewel case that you can carry anywhere, but the manufacturer didn’t include a small tube generic toothpaste. What a bummer for a traveler that forgets his toothpaste. Personally I would prefer a simple all-in-one solution.

What the heck is 7 multiply 2? FOURTEEN? Heck, it took me quite sometime to figure this out. God knows how many brain neutrons were sacrificed in this process. The maths equation on applies if you brush your teeth twice daily and 7 times a week. Trying to imitate 24×7 or 265×24x7 huh?

Time to open the box. Wait… I spotted a genuine logo. Lol… it went to that extend.

Okay, time to open it now.

Hang on a sec…

Tada… here’s the toothbrush

Opened for display

Lining them up

Did I mention it came with freebie?

I know you noticed it earlier

The free fingerbrush

Wonder how it operates? Here’s the instruction summed up in a picture.

A picture speak a thousand words

I turned it on, oddly enough the vibration from the motor at the neck feels more like a high tech vibrating dildo than any sonic toothbrush I have ever came across. Stop thinking dirty. Novelty shops are all around KL and you can just jump in to one of these shops and start fiddling with them.

And of course being a gadget freak, the first thing that I will do when I get a gadget for sure not using it, but taking it up apart and start inspection for flaws.

From the picture, you can see the misaligned filaments. Poor tufting work on the bristle head.

Poor cutting process. Leftovers can be seen.

An example of uneven cutting process.

Broken bristle. Manufacturing defects.

On the battery compartment, it also have serious designed flaw that needed serious attention.

Noticed the uneven gaps on both side? This is a sign of poor locking system. This issue has actually been fixed by the earlier model of electric toothbrush. They simply insert a rubber washer in between the gap. This gapping will cause water to seeps in to the compartment. It will cause rust inside the toothbrush and render it effectively useless.

Poorly manufactured locking track on the body and poorly crafted locking notches.

I told you. The notches barely visible.

update: Noticed the dark blue part is actually rubberized. It its softness indicates it can worn out quite fast. How much torture can it take?

It will only take a limited amount of open and close before the notches wears out. Lets pull out the battery and check it out.

Made in China Energizer.

Metal contact? Beware!!!

Remember my B&D Power ScrewDriver?

Black & Decker battery operated 6v Power ScrewDriver

Result of China made batteries

The B&D was bundled with higher quality China made batteries and it still leak. It is a well known fact that an almost drained up battery will start to have chemical degradation and start to corrode its metal body. It will only take times before the battery leaks. There is only 2 consumer solutions to this matter. 1 is to change d battery regularly (I wish I have good memory). 2nd option is to use a recharge battery instead of alkaline battery. But rechargeable battery will also rust. It only take longer time. It doesn’t matter what kind of batteries you use.

There’s another defect that I can’t show it on the pictures. When I turned it on for the 1st time, then I turned it off, there’s still a minimal vibration from the motor. Somehow there were electric leakage inside the toothbrush itself. I still wonder why in todays advancement in technology, old technologies is still employed in this toothbrush? budget? The power source can be easily replaced with a induction rechargeable battery that required less changes to the battery. Plus there is no open metal contact that can get short circuit.

Another thing is i discovered micro linens on the bristles. Most probably the tufting process wasn’t done in a clean room or the packaging environment was not well controlled.

p/s this is my neutral opinion on this product. In no way I am condemning it but I believe future buyers have the consumer rights to know about the advantages and disadvantages of a product. More improvements need to be done on the 2nd batch before it can compete with the well known brands.

I am totally broke

April 15, 2008 - 9:04 pm - Posted by cereal87

Earlier this month spent RM220 to renew my web hosting. Fine… still within my budget range.

Few days ago, spent another RM210 to buy a new router. Linksys WRT54GL v1.1. I have enough stress of dunno whoever in the house like to download junks so much until the router couldn’t cope anymore and causes network bottleneck. It is not the bandwidth, but the amount of open connections it generated. A big thank you for causing the stress and forced me to buy a new and better router.

Yesterday, spent over 40 Ringgit on a sonic toothbrush. Not to mention my unfortunate lunch yesterday. Now I am broke and only left 5 bucks in my wallet. Just enough to survive 1 meal in Cyberjaya here.

And a BIG THANKS for everyone who caused my stress and work load to increase and in the end making it worthless. The only thing I gained is confirming me that I am right in the terms of that humans are meant to fail unless they can get out of their comfort zone. Like I have always said, hate me for all the might you want, at the end of the day, you will thank me for the experience that I may be the worse person you may ever met. Hopefully you will never encounter anyone worse than me and this will be a life lesson for you.

When a human is no better than an animal

April 14, 2008 - 3:16 pm - Posted by cereal87

Lol… Ganaeshed said the title is brutal.

Couldn’t agree more. I was happily walking by Siswa Plaza with 3 sticks of fried crab stick, nuggets and fish ball and rain started drizzling when this Chinese bugger bumped into me and caused my 3 bucks lunch to fell of the ground. I looked back and that idiotic moron doesn’t even bother to turn back or say sorry. If it wasn’t for the rain getting heavier and I need a place to hide before I got drenched in rain (MMU Cyber is so futuristic that the roofed pathways are only for aesthetic values and not for sheltering purposes), I would have pulled out my Powerball and smash it right into his chest. You may ask why not just slam it on his head. Why would I want to kill him? I wanted him to endure the physical suffering of a near dying heart attack victim for depriving me off my happy meal.

Because of this fucking moron retarded Chinese, you have added the majority of Chinese people I hate and I have to freeze myself inside the CITS lab waiting for the rain to stop.

A BIG THANK YOU, you fucking moron for showing me more and more Peninsular Chinese are actually bastards that are spoiled by their parents and have low cognitive development to care for others.

Finally the new meter arrived. The old meter was spoiled. But however after dipping it to the pool and baby played with it, somehow, sometimes the meter will display the ball speed.
